As the MP for Hamilton East, it is a pleasure and privilege to represent the people of this remarkable electorate in Parliament.

Hamilton is a rapidly growing city and has an important role in the future of our country. We have a major University and are home to many successful businesses across all sectors. As a major city we face the challenges of a busy metropolitan area.

A $3 billion commitment to Hamilton's infrastructure is laying the foundations for a brighter future for the city. The Government has made major investments in Transport, Health and Education and our city will lead the way in the introduction of high speed broadband. We are spending around $3 billion on critical infrastructure for the city.

Healthcare facilities are being modernised with the massive $400 million redevelopment at Waikato Hospital; the new $2.4 billion Expressway will link Hamilton to Auckland; and the installation of high speed internet will future-proof the local economy and the Education Health sectors.

We're seizing our strategic opportunity as the largest city close to Auckland to create a vibrant centre of healthcare, education and economic activity.

This level of investment demonstrates National's commitment to Hamilton as one of the country's economic centres.

We are creating a pivotal position for Hamilton in the Golden Triangle with Auckland and Tauranga leading to more job opportunities for Hamiltonians.

I've worked hard to make sure we've been able to keep up the momentum locally in spite of the other demands we've faced as a Government during tough economic times and the disaster of the Christchurch earthquake.
The Government has responsibly managed the economy so we will be in surplus in three years, and we have strong growth figures for the first quarter and low interest rates.

Hamilton's future looks extremely positive with approximately half of the population in New Zealand expected to live within the boundaries of the Auckland-Tauranga-Hamilton triangle in the next decade or so.
